North Georgia includes the cities of Blairsville,
Blue Ridge, Hiawassee, Young Harris & Morganton
Georgia. We are approximately 20 miles away from
the Murphy and Hayesville, North Carolina state
lines. Union County in north central Georgia is
approximately two hours driving time from Atlanta,
GA, Chattanooga, TN, and Asheville, NC.At 322
square miles, its 204,736 acres is 48% within
the Chattahoochee National Forest, making the
county a very peaceful and pleasant place to live.

The area provides plenty of recreation and entertaining
events for all ages and interest: festivals,
concerts, theater, parades, hiking & camping.
We have several different lakes to choose from.
Including the beautiful Lake Nottely, a 4,180
acre body of water with a 106 miles shoreline.
Hiawassee's Lake Chatuge covers 7,000 acres
and Lake Blue Ridge covers 3,290 acres. Plenty
of water for boating and fishing!
The
tallest mountain of Georgia, Brasstown Bald
is also part of Blairsville. Very impressive
with it’s 360 degree view of four states
from the observation deck, atop Georgia's highest
elevation of 4,784 feet.The Museum offers a
film about the Bald and the area. Hiking trails
and picnicking areas are available.
Cooper's Creek Scenic & Recreation Area
is 1,240 acres of Union County featuring camping,
picnicking, hiking, fishing and hunting.
Vogel State Park is one of Georgia's oldest
and most popular state parks. Facilities include
280 acres in the mountains, 110 tent and trailer
sites, 36 rental cottages, 20 acre lake, miniature
golf, swimming beach, four picnic shelters,
pioneer camping, and paddle boats. There is
also a 17 mile hiking trail for the outdoor
enthusiasts.
Each October, Union County celebrates the making
of our world-famous sorghum syrup, so be sure
to enjoy a taste of what makes our area so unique!
Union County also has it's own private airport.
It was recently expanded to a 5,000 foot by
100 foot runway. Thirty-one T-Hangers are being
added.
Butternut Creek Golf Course & Meeks Parkare
both part of Union County Recreation Department.
Operated by the County, the golf course includes
a clubhouse, Pro Shop, large picnic pavilion
and 18 challenging holes. Meeks Park, a recreation
complex, includes picnic areas, children's playgrounds,
baseball/softball fields, a soccer field, tennis
courts, skateboarding park & a pool.
